I look at a lot of houses, daily. If you too have been looking at houses lately, either comparing what you have now with what is for sale, or looking for that next house, you have certainly noticed the trend of “white washing” every room. As with any trend or fad, this pattern will likely run its course and we will once again find color on the walls. In the meantime, this trend is what the market expects, and you should too.
If you are preparing to sell your home, the color palette you need to embrace is white. And within this embrace, you are practicing “letting go” and in doing so, it should matter more that the colors are appealing to the buyer’s than your own preference.
Not every bit of color needs to be banished, which should bring some joy back to the process. Yet those colors should accentuate something in the room which would tie together those accent colors. The green tile around the fireplace or the blue bathroom floor tile for instance would be great accent colors to consider.
Let’s be clear, simplifying the paint along with drastically pairing down the contents in each room will make the place look bigger, brighter and airier. Using color sparingly, and strategically to connect rooms and create flow will be instructive!
Additionally, a fresh eye is worth paying for! If you have been in your house for a long time, or are moving into a new one with no idea where to start with color, consider calling in a design pro. As I mentioned earlier in this post, I look at houses daily and can give guidance to the colors necessary to bring your home into compliance with the buyer’s expectations. You can also find designers who are more than willing to lend their eye to your needs. They are making these decisions all day long.
If your house no longer fits, it’s time to move or improve. That three story townhouse with six flights of stairs may seem large, yet the spaces on each floor have tight proportions, it may not be a good candidate to renovate. But in other cases, it might be well worth reimagining existing spaces, thereby creating a better living experience for all. And if you are in your forever home, then the investment in design and renovation will be one to be enjoyed for many years to come.
If you are still in search of your forever home, we can help you with that process. You can start your search at any time at www.EZPNWSearch.com. Or, if a conversation regarding areas and market conditions would be of help before you start, contact me at any time.
